Here I post about my knitting, my dogs, my garden and other things that keep me busy. Hundgestrickt is a word that I invented combining the German words for "dog" and for "knit" making it similar to "handgestrickt" for handknit (think of "houndknit") as that's what this blog is mostly about :-)

Winter Solstice
This is the shortest day of the year with the longest night yet to come. The sun just crossed the equator again. The wheel of the year keeps turning and a new and fresh canvas full of hopes and dreams lies in front of us...

Good morning
I love to be up and outside early in the morning, especially as it is going to be another hot sunny day!

September is here
and with it the meteorological autumn begins. It rained last night and the temperatures dropped to 13 degrees Celsius. And the air smells and feels like fall. Especially when you go on the doggie morning walk in shorts and barefoot. Unbelievable that not yet two weeks ago we had 38 degrees and could hardly sleep at night because it was still so hot.
A faint rainbow after the rain.

Fruit trees
On my dog walk today I walked along the "orchard" that is just across the field. There is a meadow with plenty of mice around the trees so there was a lot of duty for the three white girls (I had brought Dingo home after the first short round as it is too hot for him to walk any further - well he would walk on and on and on but just in his own slow pace and be completely exhausted...).
There are walnut trees with little fruit, pear trees with nearly no peas on them (just as in our back yard-it seems the weather was too cold for bees when they were in blossom and we forgot to hand-pollinate them...), and apple trees with plenty of small sour apples. It is a pity that no one takes care of those trees as they would need a good cut and also the fruit just fall down in fall and attract a lot of wasps... But it was a nice part of our walk and I thought I'd share a few pictures taken with my phone.

Good morning
... to a lovely Sunday.
I'm up early and out with the dogs and thought I could share these beautiful fragile poppies in the wheat field with you.
Have a great day!

Today is different
While not a single drop fell on us yesterday, the dogs and I are just getting wet for the third time today.
The rainbow is absolutely stunning: complete, double, glowing and I can see the inner left "foot".

Evening sky
I am on a walk with the dogs and do hope this rain that is coming down visibly further to the north and to the west won't reach me. And I actually don't think so. But it looks interesting.

A few spring flower pictures
... from the front and back garden on the last day of April.
March was unusually warm over here, then April colder, even with frosts again and wet and a lot more like typical for the season but it didn't feel right after that too warm March.
The last three days now have been hot. Over 30°C in some places. Summer temps! I think April just doesn't want to be said it was colder than the month before :-)
So here are some pictures:
One of the short red tulips that just do the weirdest things when taken pictures of, colourwise.
The wild white-and-yellow tulips. I love these for their simpleness ;-)
A bee on a hellebore. Look at all that pollen on her hind leg.
Narcissus are called "Easter bells" over here, because that's when they usually are all out there in all theirgorgousness. For me there is not much around that says more "spring is here" than narcissus and tulips.
A primula we bought for the big pot in the front yard. Flowering on long stems.
Our little olive tree hibernated in our bedroom. That was a lot better than last year in the basement. Now it is at it's old place on the patio enjoying the sun.
Another tulip.
Thanks for coming over!
Tina
